FREE THE BOOKS FREE THE PEOPLE

The theme for this year’s festival is a call to action against the rise of Book Bans in libraries and school districts across the US. The books disproportionately represent BIPOC and Queer people, echoing the oppressive anti-literacy laws of the past. It's not simply books that are being banned, it's a set of ideas, identities, voices, stories, and a knowledge of our history that is being suppressed, and silenced. But we won't be silenced! We know that an attack on a person's ability to read and learn is a threat to their freedom.

Juneteenth

Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. It is also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day. In 2021, President Biden made it a federally recognized National Holiday.
